Money in Ancient Egypt

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Could you have played slot games in Ancient Egypt? Well, as these guys had the technology to create things like the steam engine and the electric battery thousands of years before their western counterparts, so you might think that they might have had the skills to make a basic three reel machine, but there would be one problem; the Egyptians didn’t really ever use money. Theirs was a society ruled by the predilection of need, where the value of goods was based around their usage in the survival stakes of this early farming community. If people did jobs back in those days then they would usually be paid in grain and this was (as in someway it is today) the staple of the economy.

Grain became the standard on which the first official barter system in Egypt was run, with a 91g bag of grain as the unit currency. This was followed by the gold standard, where precious metal would be taken in place of goods. These small scraps of metal would soon become more traded than goods and those in power realised the need for official stamps of authenticity on the metals being traded and thus the coinage system was created in the late dynasties of Egypt. Perhaps they could have had slot games around this time, when Egypt had basically become a province of Greece following the glorious romp of Alexander the Great and his armies around most of the known world. We’re sure if that even if this ancient people didn’t have slot machines that if they were alive today then they’d love the Cleopatra slot that’s without question the number one gambling game in the world.

The Apprentice Fantasy Slot

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

Mark Burnetts TV show The Apprentice is one of the top shows of modern TV. Whether you are watching Donald Trump and his false hairdo in the US or Alan Sugar and his mock North London shtick, the format, the concept and of course the drama is always the same. As the show is based around a financial format, we have been thinking there must be a way that their marketing men can come up with a clever way to make this show into a slot game.

The Apprentice slot would definitely have to have a number of bonus rounds to accommodate the structure of the game. The game could be based around a persistent equity feature where you get to knock out different candidates based on reel symbols. This would lead to the first bonus round where you would have to complete a different task based on the number of candidates you’d knocked out. The best situation would be to have knocked out all but one candidate, taking you into the special final task situation, where you could win the games big progressive jackpot (which would also be accompanied by a FMV sequence of Trump or Sugar telling you ‘you’re hired’) although even if you didn’t win the task you’ve always got another chance in the boardroom gamble round.

We’re not sure exactly how the whole thing could fit together, but we hope there’s some developers out there (hopefully the same boys and girls who put together the fantastic Cleopatra Slots, Monopoly Here & Now and Rainbow Riches hint, hint Mr IGT) will be inspired enough by this article to go forth and make what we believe would be one hell of a themed slot.

Fancy a Wimbledon Tennis Fantasy Slot Game?

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Its that time of year again. The smell of freshly cut grass together with little tubs of strawberries and the sound of balls thwacking against racquets… Yes, its Wimbledon. The most prestigious Tennis tournament in the world has taken place in South London for the best part of a century, so how come we’re yet to see a themed slot based on this brilliant sporting event? We’ve seen reel games based on the World Cup, Snooker and Motor Racing so surely it’s just a matter of time before we see one based around Tennis.

A Wimbledon slot game would have to be designed with a green background together with a white border, to give the player the feeling that the reels are actually set within a tennis court. The game’s symbols would have to be straight out of court one and would definitely include Tennis balls, ball boys, racquets, glasses of barley water and all the usual icons of a summer’s day’s Tennis. Such as slot game would also have to include a bonus game that would either see you playing a set, or perhaps even a match point against your rival in order to win a big cash prize.

Developers could even include a facility for you to win a number of bonus rounds taking you through to a final round where you’d have to play one of the Wimbledon greats, such as Pete Sampras or Roger Federer to win the games progressive jackpot.

We believe a Wimbledon themed Slot game could even challenge the likes of the Cleopatra 2 slot or Megajackpots as the most popular slot of the summer.

How did the Egyptians gamble in the time of Cleopatra?

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Like all the people of great civilisations, the Ancient Egyptians loved to play games and gamble. They did not have dice to play craps, tables to play roulette or cards for Texas Hold’em poker and they certainly didn’t have any triple paying free spin round based casino slots. So what does history tell us about the games that Ancient Egyptians liked to play around the time of the great queen Cleopatra?

Well, some examples of games that the Egyptians loved to play have managed to escape the corrosion of time. We know that they played a game very similar to our modern day game of checkers and draughts called pwer, this could possibly be one of the very early ancestors of our modern game of chess.

Another game that was incredibly popular was senet, a game played with brightly coloured counters and sticks that mirrored the story of the Egyptian’s story of the soul descending into the underworld. One game that senet is incredibly similar too in our opinion is backgammon, which is now a world famous game that people simply love to gamble on. Another game that we know was popular all those years ago is dogs and jackals (sometimes called hounds and jackals), which was made popular in the Hollywood classic “The Ten Commandments”. Although we have some excellent examples of these games, recovered from tombs and smaller, late dynasty pyramids we still to this day do not have an idea of the rules although it is believed we have a good idea as to what they might have been.

We’ve played a few online versions of some of these Egyptian classics and all we can say is that we’re glad that gaming has now evolved to the point where we have internet casinos and poker rooms, because in our humble opinion some of these games are incredibly boring and simple.

We’d much rather be playing our favourite Ancient Egyptian themed slots like the Cleopatra 2 Slot or the stupendous Cleopatra Megajackpots than gambling in old Egypt.

The story of Cleopatras Needle

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Many people think that Cleopatras Needle is found in London, but actually there are three stone obelisks known by this name, one in London, one in Paris and the final one in New York. The Needles in London and New York are actually part of a pair whereas the one in Paris is not connected to the other two. None of these stones actually originate from the time of Cleopatra either, so where does the famous London landmark come from and how did it get to our capital city?

The London Cleopatra’s Needle was given to England following Lord Nelson’s victory at the Battle of the Nile by the sultan Muhammad Ali in 1801. Although the government at the time welcomed the gesture, they declined shipping the stone back to England due to the large expense of shipping such a heavy piece of stone. It wasn’t until 1877 that an English engineer decided to ship the stone back home, encasing it in a large metal cylinder called Cleopatra. It was the use of this cylinder that gave the stone its name as the obelisk certainly comes originates from a time long before the reign of Cleopatra, which was only a few decades before the time of Christ.

Cleopatra’s Needle was bought up the Thames to its final resting place where it is now displayed alongside two sphinx-like statues that were fashioned by English stone masons. It can still be seen to this day sitting in its famous position by Victoria Embankment. Not every one in the UK can get down to London to see this famous landmark, but those who can’t can still get their fix of Ancient Egypt by visiting one of our recommended online casinos and taking a few spins on any of the Cleopatra Slot Game range,  including Cleopatra, Cleopatra II or Cleopatra Megajackpots.

Who knows, you could  win a massive pyramid of cash?

Test the reels of Cleopatra against the Wolf Run Slot Game

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

WagerWorks have awarded both the Cleopatra and Wolf Run slot games with their killer status. Both games have massive fan-bases and have been huge hits in land based and online casinos alike, but when it comes down to the nuts and bolts (and reels) of the issue which one of these two slots is the best?

Well, Cleopatra is a beautifully designed slot, displaying opulent artwork lavishly embossed with golden accents together with some of the best audio you’ll hear on any modern slot game. Don’t be fooled by Cleopatra’s good looks however, behind her beautiful reels lurks one of the best paying reel games that’s backed by a superb triple paying bonus. Cleopatra is a slot game that spits money at you in a most unladylike fashion, but then who’s complaining?

Wolf Run is one of the best slots from the WagerWorks pack. It howls with a massive twenty stop spaces over it’s five reels accommodating a colossal forty pay-lines. One of the biggest pulling points of this slot game is the call of it’s wilds, with big stacks of symbols appearing on each reel making those multiple line wins ever more probable. The game also packs a free spin game and with Wolf Run’s reels set up like this, who would possibly want anything else?

When you try to compare Cleopatra and Wolf run it’s hard to find a hair between them. With so many online casinos now offering both slot games on free-play we suggest you get yourself over to some of the better known internet destinations such as Sky Vegas Casino and give these awesome reel games a try for yourself, that way you can find the slot game that suits you. It’s fair to say Wagerworks offers most of the best Online Slot games around at present, there is currently a massive surge towards Cleopatra Slot, Wolf Run and the old Irish favourite Rainbow Riches.

If you are playing slots with your own money instead of free play, always do so responsibly.

Happy spinning……

Cleopatra Vs a possible SATC slot

Monday, January 17th, 2011

We all know that the Cleopatra slot game is probably the most successful slot ever. At any given time there are probably thousands of people spinning its golden reels in an attempt to hit a big win or to get themselves onto the triple paying bonus game. However, according to noises we’re hearing from the states there is a new slot game pretender to this queen’s crown, or in fact four new pretenders in the form of Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte. Yes, that’s right the Sex and the City girls are now available in the form of a slot machine that’s sweeping casinos in the states.

We haven’t actually played a SATC themed slot, but we’ve reviewed a lot of video footage of this slot game on Youtube. It appears to be a total 21st century slot game that features video from the show together with a host of sub games that are each dependent on which character you pick from a spinning wheel. No doubt a massive part of this slot game’s success has been down to the recent release of the SATC II film, which has had a huge response at the box office worldwide.

Originally slot games were placed in casinos as something for the wives and girlfriends to do whilst the men played the serious games of craps and cards. However, as women have become more independent, the female gambler has more disposable income. It’s no surprise therefore that slots revenues now make up more casino revenue than all the table games put together. Slots with a female slant, especially slots that appeal to the most popular contemporary themes definitely seem to engender the best response in casinos, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the SATC slot becomes more popular than the Cleopatra Slot however, Cleopatra will always remain a casino classic as it’s simply one of the best reel games ever created and no matter what games come and go, this Egyptian themed slot is going to be around for a long time yet and will always be our number one choice.

It is certainly worth checking our list of operators, for the best stop for your slots coins including the famous Sky Vegas Casino, they have one of the best offers in the world at present, play with a Free £5 and the chance of a Free £500 first deposit bonus.
